When President Rhodes died in 1895, the College paid the remainder of his salary for that year to his widow, Margaret. Finding that she did not need the money, she returned it to the College and the first endowed book fund was established.

Designated for the purchase of books in Neuroscience.


Dr. and Mrs. Franklin Robinson, of Woodbridge, Connecticut, established a book fund in memory of their daughter, Helen Louise Robinson, Class of 1966. This fund will further the Library's collection in the area of Neuroscience and supplements the collection in this field donated by the Robinsons to the College.

Established by a gift from Franklin and Gloria Robinson, Class of 1945, in honor of their daughter Helen L. Robinson, Class of 1966, who received her M.Phil and Ph.D. from Yale in 1968 and 1971, respectively, and her M.D. from Dartmouth in 1978. Shortly after earning her M.D. her career was, "untimely interrupted by MS."

Margaret Nichols Smith's major subjects were English and German. Content Nichols Smith's major subjects were Latin and French; her graduate studies were in Latin and English.

Established as a memorial fund to Mary Hamilton Swindler, Professor of Classical and Near Eastern Archaeology at ½ñÈÕ³Ô¹Ï from 1912 until her retirement in 1950, by gifts from friends, colleagues, and students. There has been a constant flow of contributions to the fund in recent years.
