Architectural Design
For students interested in pursuing careers in architecture, Cities offers a unique preparatory major.
Students interested in architectural and urban design should take the Design Studio courses (226 and 228) in addition to the required Cities courses. They should select electives in architectural history and planning in order to gain a broad exposure to architecture through time and across cultural traditions. Additional courses in Physics and Calculus may be taken to meet requirements of many graduate programs in architecture. Theses may also be planned to incorporate design projects.
Other classes recommended and often required for admission to architecture schools:
- (note that architecture schools require physics, but their focus is on structures, so choose the physics you want to take carefully)
- Calculus
- Fine Arts foundation at Haverford College
- Environmental Issues
- CAD, RHINO, drafting, and other software programs can be studied at the University of Pennsylvania and other area institutions
- Thesis in Architectural Topics or Design Thesis by Special Permission
