A Turkey Day Tradition in London
On Nov. 28, 2024, Club Co-President Rachel Savage and her husband Michael hosted Lois Potter 鈥61, Elizabeth Ross 鈥92, Sara Hoskin 鈥24, and Katie Kirk 鈥26 at their art- and book-filled East London home for a lively and festive Thanksgiving gathering.
The tradition goes back to 2006, when Savage and Kim Moran 鈥00 decided it would be nice for the club to host something on Thanksgiving Day for both alums and students studying abroad.
鈥淭his was the year after I had moved to London and I wasn't sure if my friends would come if I hosted a dinner at my suburban house on a Thursday evening,鈥 Savage says.
Moran鈥檚 husband, Ian, was a warden for University College London student housing and they lived in a cottage on the grounds of the dorms. The cottage served as the Thanksgiving venue until they moved to the U.S. in 2011, at which point Savage took over hosting.
鈥淥ver the years we've had Junior Year Abroad (JYA) students who are international students at 今日吃瓜 and celebrating their first-ever Thanksgiving with us, homesick JYAs grateful for a taste of home, and alums from the classes of the 1960s to 2024,鈥 Savage says.
