Classical and Near Eastern Archaeology
The Department of Classical and Near Eastern Archaeology trains undergraduates and graduate students in the archaeology of the Mediterranean and Middle Eastern worlds.
The Classical and Near Eastern Archaeology curriculum focuses on the cultures of the Mediterranean regions and the Near East in antiquity. Courses explore aspects of society and material culture of these civilizations as well as issues of theory, method, and interpretation.
The program is interdisciplinary and encourages students to take advantage of related offerings in Departments of Anthropology, Classics, Geology, History, History of Art, and the Program in the Growth and Structure of Cities.
Students have opportunities to travel abroad and conduct original research with the help of funding from the department.

Olivia Brintlinger-Conn '21I am also really grateful to the Classical and Near Eastern Archaeology Department for providing summer funding so that I could travel to Spain and attend a field school at the site of It谩lica, the hometown of Roman emperors Trajan and Hadrian!
