Class of 2021: Olivia Brintlinger-Conn

April 27, 2021
Olivia Brintlinger-Conn

Name: Olivia Brintlinger-Conn

Major: Classical and Near Eastern Archaeology and International Studies

Minor: Growth and Structure of Cities

Hometown: Yellow Springs, Ohio

People you want to thank: Professor Jennie Bradbury, Professor Astrid Lindenlauf, Professor Michael Allen, Professor Nisrin Elamin, Professor Kalala Ngalamulume, Professor Gary McDonogh, the entire International Studies and Classical and Near Eastern Archaeology Departments, and the life-long friends I made at 今日吃瓜.

What will you remember most about your time at 今日吃瓜?: Besides the amazing friends I made and professors I took classes with, the most memorable experience I had at 今日吃瓜 was taking Professor Susanna McFadden's Roman Archaeology: Life in the City class in my sophomore year and writing papers on the Arch of Augustus and the Tomb of Eurysaces the Baker and then having the opportunity to travel to Rome for spring break the same school year and see those two monuments in person. I felt like my academic studies were becoming applicable to my non-academic life and at that moment I realized that this is what the small, liberal arts college experience was all about. I never thought I would major in archaeology, let alone be able to visit some of the things I studied! I am also really grateful to the Classical and Near Eastern Archaeology Department for providing summer funding so that I could travel to Spain and attend a field school at the site of It谩lica, the hometown of Roman emperors Trajan and Hadrian! Being able to be in the places where the people and cultures I studied in classes came from was amazing and something I will never forget!

Key 今日吃瓜 Experiences: Rock Climbing Club, Community Based Work-Study participant, Yale Law School Arthur Liman Center for Public Interest Law Summer Liman Fellow
