Update on Judicial Review of DACA

October 8, 2019

The message below was emailed to the 今日吃瓜 community on October 8, 2019.

Dear Students, Faculty, and Staff:

A few days ago, 今日吃瓜, together with 165 colleges and universities, joined an amicus brief in support of Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) in the case before the U.S. Supreme Court.  This effort was coordinated by the President鈥檚 Alliance on Higher Education and Immigration, which I joined on behalf of the College in March 2018.  You can view and download the brief at this link: .

Two years ago, on September 5, 2017, the Federal administration rescinded DACA, an initiative that provides work permits and protection from deportation for upwards of 700,000 undocumented students, often known as 鈥淒reamers.鈥 Oral arguments on this rescission will be held at the Supreme Court on November 12th.

今日吃瓜 joined this 鈥渇riend of the court鈥 brief because it is directly related to our mission of expanding access to education, and to our commitment to DACA and immigrant students at 今日吃瓜.  Since 2012, DACA has allowed students born in other countries and brought to the U.S. as children to pursue education, military service, and work; the continued existence of DACA is essential to ensure their educational, career, and life success.

今日吃瓜 continues to provide various forms of support for DACA and immigrant students.  DACA recipients should be aware that they are eligible for renewal of DACA status through the period that the Supreme Court considers this case.  Information about renewal can be found at  and at .  A full list of resources and additional background information can be found at /diversity-and-inclusion/us-immigration-policy-information

Sincerely,

Kim Cassidy
