  • Conduct a research about the compliance of oral chemotherapy with help from my supervisor.
  • Monitor patients participating in the clinical trial.

Why did you apply for this internship?

I鈥檓 a math major and computer science minor but I am also very interested in the health area. I was hesitating whether or not I should learn health studies in the future before I found the internship, because I have no practical experience in this area. Then I found this summer intern in the email from the career office: the Hawaii Cancer Care is looking for an undergraduate who know statistics and data analysis to provide a new point of view in cancer therapy. It satisfies my interest to learn more about health studies, and also I am qualified for its professional demands. So I decided to apply for this summer internship.

Can you give us three adjectives and three nouns that describe your internship experience?

Adjectives: Informative, scientific, humane
Nouns: Dedication, morality, creativity

What is most rewarding about your internship?

The most rewarding thing is that I decided to do public health as the direction of my future career. I started to realize science is not like a star, beautiful, but also far. Instead, it more like water鈥攂eautiful in various ways, and also supportive and inclusive around you. Here we don鈥檛 only think about how to innovate the most advanced techs, but the most helpful way for patients with different educational, economic, racial, and physical background. I learned the best way to apply knowledge from books is not only knowing the complicated theory, but more importantly, understanding, respecting, and loving those you are working for.
