GSSWSR Professor James (Jim) Martin was a conference organizer and co-chair for the higher education track of the University of Alabama-sponsored Service Member to Civilian Summit (S2C).
The event was a collaborative research conference honoring our nation鈥檚 service members from all branches of the military and addressing current and emerging needs of service members transitioning to civilian life. The summit was hosted by the University of Alabama鈥檚 School of Social Work and partly funded by the Eunice Kennedy Shriver National Institute of Child Health and Human Development.
A special pre-summit session focused on "Moral Injury and Faith-Based Approaches to Supporting Veterans and Families." S2C examined how service members from all branches of the military transition to civilian life and how we can improve that transition through translational science and service. The 2016 summit brought together service members, veterans, their families, and community stakeholders to meet with advocates, researchers, clinicians, educators, and policy makers from the United States and Canada to better understand and explore ways that all stakeholders can improve the transition from service to civilian life.
