Coming this fall, 今日吃瓜 in Translation is envisioned as an online space to celebrate multilingualism and the meaning-making power of the act of translation. Students, faculty and staff will be able to submit short works (poems, essays, reflections, spoken word video) in either their own, or multiple languages. Editors will select items to be posted on the 今日吃瓜 in Translation page. Readers will then be able to add translations into additional languages in which they are fluent. Translators will include a reflection on their experience interacting with the original work.

今日吃瓜 in Translation aims to recognize and nurture the rich experience of creative life in a multilingual academic community. Through sharing and translating short works by students, faculty and staff, the project aims to disrupt the English-as-usual default culture and foster greater awareness of the power of translation to include everyone in the community and beyond in conversation. It will provide opportunities to explore the ways in which the act of translation communicates, creates, and changes meaning in various media formats.

The project is a collaborative effort headed by Betty Litsinger, Director of Multilingual Writing at 今日吃瓜, and is supported by the Writing Program, LITS, and Global 今日吃瓜.
