Associate Professor and Chair of the Italian Studies Department Roberta Ricci is the Recipient of the Research Award for spring 2019.
Her project is titled: Moving Texts/Testi in movimento: Florence, Byzantium, and the Mediterranean World.
Description: Greek language was the domain of a minority in 15th century Italy. Written passages in the ancient language were omitted or shortened in manuscripts, following the formula 鈥済raecum est, non legitur鈥. By drawing attention to the encounters between the Latin West and the Greek East and problematizing Byzantium as a learning destination, this project invites a deeper exploration of Italian Humanism in the context of Mediterranean multiculturalism.
