Exhibition: Untold Stories of Migrants

April 27, 2018

Wednesday, May 2, 1-2:30PM, Unity Resource Center (Campus Center 105)

Untold Stories of Migrants is a reflexive as well as creative collective exercise undertaken by the students in the course Sociology of Migration. The exhibition showcases five overlapping and interconnected themes —Debunking Myths of Migration, the Roles of Women in Migration, Transnational Childhood, Queer Migrants, and Diasporas of Migration—each of which seeks to shed light on the multifaceted dimensions of the different groups involved in the phenomenon.

The project was initially designed as a series of individual students’ presentations, but as the class progressed through the semester they increasingly came to recognize the prejudices, stereotypes, and, above all, lack of information about migration. In response, they decided that a public exhibition would contribute to creating a space for public reflection in our community to help us to better understand the complexity of one of the most challenging phenomena of our time: global migration.

Professor Veronica Montes, who teaches the course, and the students of the class cordially invite you to experience the students’ collective exhibition with a view to open not only your mind but also your heart and, by exploring the different themes of the project, to better understand the human face of migration.
