Exhibition: Redefining HERstory in the #MeToo Era

April 27, 2018

On display until Friday, April 27 at 7 PM, VCAM Room 206, Haverford College

Haverford's Anthropology 214鈥檚 exhibit exposes the systematic erasure of Black women鈥檚 stories through a visual account of the neglected history of Black women鈥檚 sexual victimization in the United States. Beginning with the animalistic depictions of Black women鈥檚 sexuality during chattel slavery in the 17th century, the installation demonstrates how this erasure is perpetrated in the 21st century #MeToo movement, continuing the historical pattern of prioritizing and centering the experiences of white women.

The exhibition creators know that the contents of this exhibit are potentially triggering. A representative from the Haverford Women*s Center will be present outside of the exhibit to provide support, and if you would like to provide anonymous feedback there will be a forum for that as well.
