Connecting GSAS Students: Peer Mentoring for Support, Growth, and Community

Peer-Mentoring Program

The program, initiated in the fall of 2024, aims to provide additional peer support and encouragement while fostering connections among GSAS students.

  • Build a Supportive Community: Create a network of graduate students who can support each other through common challenges, reducing feelings of isolation and improving overall well-being.
  • Develop Leadership and Mentoring Skills: Offer opportunities for students to take on mentorship roles, enhancing their leadership abilities and preparing them for future supervisory roles in academia or industry.
  • Promote Cultural and Academic Diversity: Encourage interactions among students from varied backgrounds and academic areas, fostering a broader perspective on global and cultural contexts in research.
  • Monthly Meal Tickets: The GSAS Office will provide meal tickets each month for mentor-mentee pairs, enabling casual and informal meet-ups at any BMC dining hall to help nurture their mentoring relationships.

  • Flexible Agenda: Mentors and mentees have the autonomy to set their own meeting times, formats, and discussion topics each month, tailoring their interactions to best meet their needs and goals.

  • Annual Celebration: The GSAS Office will host an annual event to bring together all program participants, creating an opportunity to share experiences and celebrate the collective success of the peer mentoring community.

  • Enhance Communication and Interpersonal Skills: Refine your ability to communicate effectively, listen actively, and engage meaningfully with peers from diverse backgrounds.

  • Develop Leadership and Organizational Abilities: Strengthen your capacity to guide, support, and manage interactions, showcasing initiative and collaboration that enhances your CV for academic and professional growth.

  • Expand Your Network and Make New Friends: Connect with graduate students across various disciplines, building relationships that can foster collaboration and create a supportive community.

Graduate students interested in participating as a mentor and/or mentee should fill out  by November 15.
