The Graduate School of Arts and Sciences warmly congratulates Doug Gisewhite of Chemistry for the successful defense of his doctoral dissertation, "The Molybdenum Cofactor: Modeling the Swiss Army Knife of Metabolic Diversity." Professor of Chemistry and Dean of the Graduate School, Sharon Burgmayer, served as his advisor. Doug鈥檚 dissertation focus was to develop a series of synthetic models incorporating relevant components of the molybdenum cofactor. His work involved synthesis of pyranopterin dithiolene ligands and the study of their molybdenum complexes to better understand the critical role these molecules play during the catalytic reactions of molybdenum enzymes. Doug has recently accepted a postdoctoral research associate position with the Groves Lab at Princeton University. Congratulations Doug!
